Topic: Ambivalence is normal ~ How to respond to it
Ambivalence is a normal part of the recovery and change process. Individuals struggling with substance use or mental health challenges often feel two conflicting things simultaneously—wanting to change while also feeling drawn to old behaviors. In this group, families will learn that ambivalence is not a sign of failure or lack of motivation, but a natural stage in the process of change. We will discuss how loved ones can respond supportively and constructively by avoiding confrontation, expressing empathy, reinforcing healthy choices, and encouraging open dialogue. The goal is to help families understand how their responses can reduce shame, strengthen connection, and support long-term recovery.
This group continues to be free but space is limited. Please be sure to RSVP in advance to reserve your spot. We look forward to seeing you there and continuing this important work together.
For the families who have attended previous sessions, thank you for joining us. We’re grateful for your presence, openness, and commitment to supporting your loved one’s recovery journey.
