Getting here from Studio City, or starting by video

By car: most people take US-101 or the SR-134 west to the I-405 and head south through the Sepulveda Pass toward Venice Blvd. Others cross the hills on Laurel Canyon or Coldwater Canyon and continue west. All mileage here is approximate, and the canyons and the pass both slow down at rush hour.

By transit: the Metro B Line connects the Universal City and Studio City area with downtown Los Angeles, where you can connect to the E Line toward Culver City or to Metro Line 33 along Venice Blvd. It is a long ride, so check Metro before you plan on it.

By video: if a shoot runs late or school pickup collides with your session, video lets you keep it from any private space in California.

Studio City: local context and resources

Studio City is a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, close to major film and TV studios, and it sits in Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 2 with the rest of the San Fernando Valley (LA County DMH). For public health planning, the county lists Studio City in SPA 2, the San Fernando Valley (LA Almanac, citing LA County Public Health). The Service Area 2 page also lists a community shared resource directory and a United Mental Health Promoters program, both useful starting points for free or low-cost help.

With hillside homes above Ventura Blvd and flatland streets below it, Studio City is home to many writers, performers, crew members and their families, as well as households with no tie to the industry. Creative work can mean feast or famine income, public rejection and long stretches of uncertainty, and those pressures often reach the kids too. Studio City searches that reach us include medication management, and many people come wanting therapy and psychiatric care that talk to each other. Parents of child and teen performers can read therapy for parents of young performers.

Who we help in Studio City

  • Writers, artists and performers dealing with creative blocks, rejection or uneven work; see therapy for writers and creatives.
  • Adults with anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder, where arranged psychiatric care may be part of the plan.
  • Families with a teen at a public or private school who is struggling with stress, mood or motivation.
  • College students home in Studio City. When clinically appropriate, we can write leave of absence or return letters; see therapy for college students.
  • Trust beneficiaries: with written permission, a trustee can receive attendance and general progress.

In the office or by video: which fits you

Studio City is close enough that coming to Mar Vista each week is realistic for many people, and the office is the only place we offer Brainspotting. Video suits weeks built around production calls, auditions or a parent who has to join from work. Career coaching is available in both formats.
