Starting by video, or getting here from Tarzana

By video: at about 14 miles, Tarzana sits just past the distance where a weekly drive is easy, so most clients here start by video and come in when it makes sense. Video works from your home in the hills, a parked car with privacy, or an office near Ventura Blvd.

By car: the usual way is US-101 east to the I-405, then south over the Sepulveda Pass toward Venice Blvd. Distances are approximate, and the pass is slowest at commute hours.

By transit: the bus trip from Tarzana involves transfers across the Valley and the pass. Check Metro’s trip planner before relying on it.

Tarzana: local context and resources

Tarzana is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles in the southern San Fernando Valley, with hillside homes south of Ventura Blvd and medical employers along the boulevard. The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health includes Tarzana in Service Area 2 (LA County DMH). The county Department of Public Health groups Tarzana in the same San Fernando Valley planning area, SPA 2 (LA Almanac, citing LA County Public Health). The DMH Service Area 2 page links a clergy interfaith collaborative and a shared community resource directory, and 211 LA County connects residents with free and low-cost services (211 LA).

With medical employers so close by, plenty of residents work in healthcare, and others are supporting a family member through an illness, a surgery or a long recovery. Caregiving can bring grief, exhaustion and anxiety that people set aside until it spills over. Other Tarzana clients are young adults back home and unsure of their next step, or parents of teens facing pressure at school.

Who we help in Tarzana

  • Family caregivers supporting a parent, partner or child through illness or recovery.
  • Adults with depression, OCD or trauma, including after a medical crisis.
  • Young adults living at home who feel stuck; therapy and career coaching can work together.
  • College students in Tarzana for a break or a term off. Leave of absence and return letters are available when clinically appropriate; see therapy for college students.
  • Families with a trustee: with written permission, attendance and general progress can be shared.

In the office or by video: which fits you

Most Tarzana clients keep weekly sessions on video, which also makes it easy for a parent or caregiver to join from wherever they are. Come to Mar Vista for Brainspotting, which is office only, or if you want a space away from home; a mix is common. Career coaching is available by video or in the office.
