Estate planning and family law attorneys regularly meet clients and families in hard moments: a divorce, a death, a contested trust, an adult child in crisis. Blackburn Clinical Services is an outpatient therapy and psychiatry practice in West Los Angeles for adults and adolescents. This page explains how an attorney can suggest care for a client or a client’s family member. Call (888) 870 7405 or email info@blackburnclinical.com.

For family law attorneys
Divorce and custody disputes are hard on everyone in the family, and teens and young adults often carry stress they do not show their parents. Signs include falling grades, withdrawal, anger, sleep changes and new alcohol, vaping or drug use.
- Care for a teen or young adult. Our adolescent services include individual therapy, family therapy and psychiatric evaluation. A therapist’s job is to support the young person, not to carry messages between parents or choose a side.
- Care for your client. Adults going through a divorce may need help with anxiety, depression, grief or drinking. See anxiety, depression and relationship counseling.
- Consent for minors. Who can consent to a minor’s care can depend on custody orders and California law. Ask the parents to confirm who holds that authority before the first appointment; we will ask too.
For estate planning and trust attorneys
- A beneficiary or heir who is struggling. Substance use, depression or a lack of direction in a young adult beneficiary often comes up during planning or administration. Families can read Helping a Young Adult Trust Beneficiary Start Mental Health Care, and trustees can read For Trustees and Professional Fiduciaries.
- Grief after a death. Administration often begins while a family is grieving. See grief counseling.
- Families under strain. Contested matters can damage family relationships. Family services include family coaching and a free virtual family support group.
For heirs adjusting to an inheritance, see therapy for sudden wealth and inheritance. For clients whose family also runs a business together, see therapy for family business families.
How to refer
- Give your client our number, (888) 870 7405, or our email, info@blackburnclinical.com, or offer to help them make the first call.
- Or use our referral form. We follow up, then contact the client to schedule an assessment.
- Anything we share with you happens only with your client’s written permission. Otherwise we cannot confirm or share anything.
Attorneys looking for care for themselves can see therapy and psychiatry for attorneys. See every professional page at for professionals. For a client’s teen or young adult who needs structure and follow-through rather than clinical care, Blackburn Mentoring, a sister organization, has pages for advisors and attorneys.
Questions
Can a family law attorney refer a client’s teenager to Blackburn?
Yes. An attorney can share our information with the parents. Care for a minor starts with the parent or guardian who has authority to consent, and the therapist supports the young person without taking sides.
Will you update me on my client’s care?
Only with your client’s written permission, and only what they agree to share.
Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice and provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
