Starting by video, or getting here from Palmdale
By video: Palmdale clients work with us by video. Join from home in Palmdale, Littlerock, Sun Village or Acton, or from a private space at work, whenever you have privacy and a steady signal.
By car: the SR-14 heads south to the I-5, and from there the I-405 south crosses into West Los Angeles. Given the distance, most people reserve the office for occasional visits, such as Brainspotting.
By train and bus: the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line stops in Palmdale on its way to Union Station; from downtown, the Metro E Line heads west, and Metro Line 33 follows Venice Blvd. Check Metro’s maps and schedules for times.
Palmdale and the Antelope Valley: local context and resources
Palmdale counted 169,450 residents in the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau data via LA Almanac). For county mental health services, Palmdale is in the LA County Department of Mental Health’s Service Area 1, the Antelope Valley, which also covers Lancaster and unincorporated areas such as Littlerock, Sun Village, Acton and Lake Los Angeles (LA County DMH). For free or low-cost local services, dial 211 or visit 211 LA County.
Palmdale is a high desert city where aerospace manufacturing is a major employer and many families include at least one parent who commutes into the Los Angeles basin. When a parent leaves before dawn and returns after dinner, the other parent can end up managing a teen’s struggles alone, and couples can drift apart without noticing. Parent-only sessions and family sessions by secure video let both parents take part even on commuting days. Adults here also come to therapy for anxiety, low mood and stress that has nothing to do with the drive.
Who we help in Palmdale
- Commuting parents and the partner at home, sharing the load of raising a teen.
- Aerospace and manufacturing workers handling stress, burnout or depression.
- Young adults in or between college. When clinically appropriate, we can provide letters for a leave of absence or return. See therapy for college students.
- Teens in individual therapy, with parents involved as needed.
- Beneficiaries of a trust. With written permission, we share attendance and general progress with the trustee.
In the office or by video: which fits you
From Palmdale, video is what makes weekly therapy work, and a commuting parent can join too. The Mar Vista office is the place for Brainspotting, which we do only in person, or for anyone who will be on the Westside anyway. Career coaching works by video as well.
Questions from Palmdale residents
Do you have an office in Palmdale?
No. Our one office is at 12326 Venice Blvd in Mar Vista, about 44 miles from central Palmdale in a straight line. Palmdale clients meet with us by secure video.
One of us commutes to Los Angeles. Can both parents join a family session?
Yes. On video, each parent can join from a different place, as long as both are located in California and somewhere private. That way the commuting parent does not miss out.
Do you serve Littlerock, Sun Village and Acton too?
Yes. Anyone located in California can see us by secure video, including people in the unincorporated communities around Palmdale.
Can you see a teen from Palmdale?
Yes. Teens are seen individually, with family and parent-only sessions, and either parent can consent. Our online teen therapy in California page describes how it works.
Is psychiatric care possible for Palmdale residents?
Psychiatric care and medication management can be arranged, coordinated with your therapist. We explain how when you call.
