Starting by video, or getting here from Cerritos
By video: most people in Cerritos begin here. Video works whether you are at home in Cerritos or at a job across the county line in Orange County.
By car: the common routes are the I-605 to the I-105 west and then the I-405 north, or the I-5 or I-605 north to the I-10 west. Both cross much of the county, so drive it once at your session time before choosing the office.
By transit: you would ride Metro rail into downtown Los Angeles and then the E Line west. It is a long trip; plan it with Metro’s maps and schedules.
Cerritos: local context and resources
Cerritos had 49,578 residents in the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau data via LA Almanac). It sits on the Orange County border, and for county mental health programs it belongs to the LA County Department of Mental Health’s Service Area 7, together with neighbors such as Artesia, Lakewood, Norwalk and Hawaiian Gardens (LA County DMH). If you need free or low-cost services, 211 LA County can connect you by phone.
Cerritos is a planned, family-oriented city with a diverse population and public schools that many families value highly. For teens, that can come with real academic pressure, and for parents it can mean worrying about whether a child’s stress is normal. We often hear about anxiety, perfectionism and burnout; our page on therapy for high-achieving teens covers that in depth. In family sessions, we work with whoever in the household wants to take part.
Who we help in Cerritos
- High schoolers under academic pressure, and parents who want to know when to step in.
- Adults with anxiety, low mood or burnout, including those who commute to Orange County. See depression treatment.
- College students and recent graduates. When clinically appropriate, we write letters for a leave of absence or for returning to school. See therapy for college students.
- Parents who want parent-only sessions to plan how to help at home.
- Young adults with a trust. With written permission, we share attendance and general progress with the trustee.
In the office or by video: which fits you
Video fits most Cerritos residents, including students with a full school day and parents who join from the office. The Mar Vista office fits Brainspotting, which we only offer in person, and anyone who prefers a room to a screen or already travels to the Westside. Tell us your preference on the first call.
Questions from Cerritos residents
Do you have an office in Cerritos?
No. Our only office is at 12326 Venice Blvd in Mar Vista, about 23 miles from central Cerritos in a straight line. Most Cerritos clients choose secure video.
I live in Cerritos but work in Orange County. Can I do video sessions from work?
Yes, if you have a private space. Video therapy is available to clients located in California, and Orange County is in California, so you can join from either side of the county line.
My teen is stressed about grades. Is that a reason to start therapy?
It can be. If stress is affecting sleep, mood, eating or friendships, or your teen seems stuck, an assessment can help sort out what is going on. Either parent can consent, and parent-only sessions are available too.
Can a Cerritos adult arrange psychiatric care through you?
Psychiatric care and medication management can be arranged in coordination with your therapist. We explain how when you call.
Which county mental health area covers Cerritos?
The LA County Department of Mental Health lists Cerritos in Service Area 7. For free county services, 211 LA County or the county 24/7 Help Line can point you to the right place.
