It typically runs 3 to 5 hours a week. Teens typically stay in school, with sessions inside weekday hours. Some Saturday therapy appointments are available.

Starting by video, or getting here from Silver Lake

By video: Silver Lake is on the far side of central Los Angeles from our office, so many people here start by video. You join from a private room at home or a quiet studio, then come to Mar Vista when you want a session in person or Brainspotting.

By car: from Silver Lake the common route is the US-101 toward downtown, the I-110 south and then the I-10 west. Surface streets across Hollywood and Mid-City are an alternative. Try the trip once at your usual hour before committing to it weekly.

By transit: Metro rail into downtown and then the E Line west toward Culver City works, and Metro Line 33 runs along Venice Blvd near our office. It is a long ride; check Metro’s maps and schedules.

Silver Lake: local context and resources

Silver Lake is a City of Los Angeles neighborhood east of Hollywood, built around hillside streets and the reservoir that gives it its name. The city’s Bureau of Engineering is leading a master plan to repurpose the Silver Lake Reservoir Complex into a public park amenity; the plan report was completed in December 2020 and, according to the bureau, an environmental review comes before city approval (City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering). Check the bureau’s page for the current status.

For county mental health services, Silver Lake is part of Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 4 (LA County DMH), and the county Department of Public Health lists it in SPA 4, Metropolitan Los Angeles (LA County Public Health). It has no separate Census population count. Many residents are creative professionals and young adults whose income and hours rise and fall with projects. That pattern shows up in therapy as anxiety about money and work, trouble keeping routines, and questions about where a career is going.

  • Families working with a trustee. With written permission, we can share attendance and general progress.

In the office or by video: which fits you

From Silver Lake, video usually fits weekly therapy best: no crosstown drive, and a session can sit between project calls. The Mar Vista office fits Brainspotting, which is office only, and anyone who works better in the room or is on the Westside for other reasons. Career coaching works either way. Many Silver Lake clients start on video and add office visits later.
