Echo Park: local context and resources

Echo Park is a City of Los Angeles neighborhood just northwest of downtown, with hillside homes around the lake park and many young adults and creative workers. Echo Park is not a Census place, so we do not quote a population. Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health places Echo Park, along with nearby Angelino Heights and Elysian Park, in Service Area 4 (LA County DMH), and the county Department of Public Health lists Echo Park in SPA 4, Metropolitan Los Angeles (LA County Public Health). Downtown county clinics are a short trip away, and the 24/7 Help Line can point you to them.

People from Echo Park often describe lives built around creative work, gig income and shared housing. In therapy that can look like anxiety about rent and the next project, a sense of being behind friends, drinking or cannabis use that has become routine, or a relationship tested by tight quarters. Others have lived in Echo Park for decades and are dealing with grief, aging parents or change in the neighborhood around them.

In the office or by video: which fits you

For Echo Park residents, video usually fits weekly therapy best, since the office is on the other side of the city. The Mar Vista office fits Brainspotting, which is office only, and anyone who wants a session away from a shared home. Career coaching works either way. Some Echo Park clients come in once a month and use video in between.
