Starting by video, or getting here from Agoura Hills
By video: almost every Agoura Hills client starts here. At about 21 miles in a straight line, a weekly drive to the Westside is a big ask, while a video session takes an hour from a quiet room at home. Sessions can also continue during school breaks, work travel inside California or a stay with relatives.
By car: the usual way is the US-101 east through Calabasas and the west Valley to the I-405 south, then west on Venice Blvd. A coastal alternative crosses the mountains to Pacific Coast Highway. Either way, try the trip once at your session time before planning regular visits.
By transit: public transit between Agoura Hills and Mar Vista takes several connections. Check Metro’s maps and schedules if you want to try it.
Agoura Hills: local context and resources
The 2020 Census counted 20,299 people in Agoura Hills (U.S. Census Bureau, via LA Almanac). The city is part of Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 2, the San Fernando Valley area, which also includes neighboring Calabasas and Westlake Village (LA County DMH; LA Almanac). For free or low-cost county services, start with the county’s get help page or 211.
The November 2018 Woolsey Fire burned through the hills around Agoura Hills. Evacuating once changes how many families react to red flag days, smoke on the horizon or the next evacuation warning. The 2025 fires elsewhere in the county brought some of that back. Therapy can help with lingering trauma and anxiety, and with how a family talks about risk with its kids. Agoura Hills is also a commuter city along the 101, and long days on the road leave less room for sleep, exercise and each other.
Who we help in Agoura Hills
- Adults and families still carrying stress from the Woolsey Fire or from later fire seasons.
- Commuting parents and professionals with burnout, depression or strain at home. See relationship counseling.
- Teens and young adults working through school, independence and identity, with parents involved as needed.
- College students back home between terms. We provide leave of absence and return letters when clinically appropriate; see therapy for college students.
- Families with a trustee. With your written permission, the trustee can receive attendance and general progress only.
In the office or by video: which fits you
Given the distance, video is the default for weekly therapy from Agoura Hills, and it makes joining from work easy for a parent. The Mar Vista office is there for Brainspotting, which is in person only, for people who prefer sitting in the room, and for anyone who works on the Westside. Career coaching can be done either way. We will help you choose on the first call.
