Getting here from Manhattan Beach, or starting by video
By car: most people head north on Sepulveda Blvd past the airport or take the I-405 north, then follow Venice Blvd west to our block. Sepulveda is the surface street alternative when the 405 is jammed near LAX. Try the route once at the hour you are considering before you commit to a standing time.
By transit: the Metro K Line runs through the South Bay north to Expo/Crenshaw, where the E Line continues west toward Culver City, and Metro Line 33 runs along Venice Blvd. It is a workable trip with transfers; check Metro’s maps and schedules first.
By video: when the week fills up with work, school runs and practices, a Manhattan Beach client can keep the same appointment from a quiet room at home and come into Mar Vista when it suits.
Manhattan Beach: local context and resources
Manhattan Beach is a coastal city of 35,506 people at the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau figures via LA Almanac). For county mental health planning it falls in Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 8, together with Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and the Palos Verdes Peninsula (LA County DMH; LA Almanac). That matters if you also want free or low-cost county services close to home; 211 LA County and the county help line can point you to them.
Many Manhattan Beach teens carry demanding academic and athletic schedules on top of the social life of a small beach town. Some handle it well. Others start sleeping badly, dreading practice, or slipping behind without telling anyone. Parents often call us first just to think it through, and a parent-only session is a reasonable place to begin. Students can also ask about their school district’s student support services. Our pages on therapy for high school student athletes and high-achieving teens go deeper.
Who we help in Manhattan Beach
- Teens and student athletes in Manhattan Beach dealing with performance pressure, anxiety, injury setbacks or burnout.
- Adults with anxiety, depression, work stress or relationship strain.
- College students home in Manhattan Beach between terms. When clinically appropriate we provide letters for a leave of absence or return; see therapy for college students.
- Parents who want guidance for themselves through parent-only and family sessions.
- Families working with a trustee. With written permission we share attendance and general progress; see our page for trustees.
In the office or by video: which fits you
From Manhattan Beach the office is close enough for a regular in-person hour, and it is the only place we offer Brainspotting. Video suits a parent joining a family session from work or a teen with a late practice. You can switch between the two as your season changes.
