Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Video sessions for Palo Alto and Peninsula clients.

What can Peninsula clients get from Blackburn by video?

  • No local office: we do not have an office in Palo Alto or anywhere on the Peninsula; care is by secure video. Mar Vista, Los Angeles, is about 316 miles from downtown Palo Alto in a straight line.
  • Therapy: one-on-one, weekly or more, with CBT, DBT, ACT and related approaches.
  • Concierge Outpatient Program: usually 3 to 5 hours of one-on-one work a week. No groups, no fixed hour minimum.
  • Inside the program by video: therapy, psychoeducation on regulation and relapse prevention, coaching and case management.
  • Psychiatry: psychiatric care can be arranged; ask us on the first call.
  • Not online: Brainspotting is offered only at our Los Angeles office.

Why do Peninsula professionals choose one-on-one care over a group program?

The Peninsula runs on venture timelines, product launches and quarterly reviews. A lot of our callers from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City and Burlingame are founders, engineers, investors, physicians and attorneys who cannot disappear into a 12 to 20 hour a week group schedule, and who would rather not sit in a group with someone from the next team over. That is the gap the Concierge Outpatient Program fills: more support than a weekly hour, delivered privately and fit around the calendar. Our page for professionals explains how we work with demanding jobs.

Family pressure is the other theme. Peninsula parents often describe high-achieving teens, college admissions anxiety and long commutes that shrink family time. For teens 13 to 17, start with our online teen therapy for California families. For college students on a quarter calendar, the ten-week sprint ends in finals right before each break, which is often when a student calls; see therapy for college students and our guide to a clinical evaluation for a leave of absence.

Which county mental health system covers your Peninsula city?

The Peninsula straddles two counties, and public services depend on which side of San Francisquito Creek you live on. Palo Alto had about 69,004 residents on January 1, 2026, Menlo Park about 33,785 and the city of San Mateo about 104,020, and San Mateo County as a whole about 748,182, per the California Department of Finance.

Santa Clara County’s Behavioral Health Services Call Center answers 24 hours a day; callers with a local area code can also dial 988 to reach it. San Mateo County’s BHRS ACCESS Call Center provides information, assessment and referrals for county residents with Medi-Cal or no insurance. Private-pay clients often use us alongside or instead of those systems.

How do sessions fit a Caltrain and 101 commute?

A session cannot happen on a crowded train car, so most Peninsula clients book a time when they are already home or in a closed room at work. Some take a midday session from a parked car outside the office, then drive back down El Camino. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and some Saturday therapy appointments exist for people whose weekdays are packed. You must be in California for each session, which matters for anyone who flies out for board meetings or conferences; we simply move the hour.

What does it cost, and will insurance help?

We do not take or bill insurance. Superbills are provided for reimbursable services, and many Peninsula clients submit them for out-of-network benefits. Read the private pay FAQ or the fees page, then call for current fees. For the wider picture, see our virtual outpatient program and telehealth therapy across California.

Questions from Palo Alto and Peninsula clients

Do you have an office in Palo Alto or on the Peninsula?

No. We do not have an office in Palo Alto or on the Peninsula; care is by secure video. Our only office is in Los Angeles.

Is the Concierge Outpatient Program discreet enough for a senior executive?

It is one-on-one with no groups, so you never share a room or screen with other clients. Sessions are scheduled around your work and are held by secure video.

I live in Menlo Park. Which county line should I call for public services?

Menlo Park is in San Mateo County, whose BHRS ACCESS Call Center is (800) 686-0101. Palo Alto, across the creek, is in Santa Clara County.

Can a college student on a quarter calendar work with you?

Yes, if the student is located in California during sessions. We can also complete leave of absence and return evaluations when clinically appropriate.

Can psychiatric care be part of the plan?

Psychiatric care can be arranged and coordinated with your therapist. We explain how on the first call.

How is this different from a virtual IOP?

A typical IOP runs 12 to 20 hours a week and leans on group therapy. Our program is an alternative to IOP: one-on-one, usually 3 to 5 hours a week, adjusted to need.
