Blackburn Clinical Services provides one-on-one therapy by secure video for clients located in California, from the Oregon border to San Diego. Weekly therapy and the Concierge Outpatient Program both work by video. Our only office is in Los Angeles, at 12326 Venice Blvd in Mar Vista, for anyone who prefers to meet in person. Psychiatric care can be arranged. No diagnosis or referral is needed to start. Call (888) 870 7405 or email info@blackburnclinical.com.

Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Video therapy for adults, young adults, teens and families anywhere in California.
Is telehealth therapy available anywhere in California?
Yes. If you are physically in California when a session takes place, you can work with us by secure video, whether you are in a city apartment, a farm town in the Central Valley or a cabin near Tahoe. What matters is your location during the session. California’s Board of Behavioral Sciences explains that a clinician needs a current California license to provide therapy to clients located in California, and that telehealth is defined by where the client is (BBS telehealth FAQ). So if you will be traveling out of state, tell us ahead of time and we will talk through what is possible.

Psychiatric care is not listed in the table because it is arranged separately: psychiatric care can be arranged and coordinated with your therapist, and we explain how when you call.
Who do we see by video?
- Adults working through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief or relationship strain.
- People whose drinking or drug use is tangled up with their mood, who often need more than one weekly session. The virtual outpatient program page explains that option.
- Teens 13 to 17 and their parents. See online teen therapy across California.
- College and graduate students who move between campus and home during the year. Leave of absence and return letters are available when clinically appropriate.
- Professionals who need sessions to fit around a demanding schedule. See for professionals.
What does a video session look like?
You get a secure link before your appointment. At the time of the session you open it on a phone, tablet or laptop, and your therapist joins. The session runs much like one in the office: you talk, your therapist listens, asks questions and works with you on skills and next steps. NIMH lists CBT, DBT and other established psychotherapies and notes that some approaches involve a therapist helping at a distance (NIMH).
A few practical things make video work well:
- A private space where you will not be overheard. A parked car, a closed bedroom or a booked office room all work.
- Headphones, so your side of the conversation stays yours.
- A steady connection. If the call drops, your therapist will reconnect or call you.
- Being in California at session time, and letting your therapist know where you are joining from.
Where are our clients located?
We have one office, in Mar Vista on the Westside of Los Angeles. Everywhere else, care is by secure video. We do not have offices outside Los Angeles.
- Northern California: San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, the East Bay, the South Bay, Sacramento and the North State. See online therapy for Northern California.
- Central Coast and Central Valley: from Santa Cruz and Monterey to San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, and from Stockton to Fresno and Bakersfield. All by video.
- Los Angeles County: video or our office. Local pages include Pasadena, Long Beach, Santa Clarita, Santa Monica and Burbank. See every page on Areas We Serve.
- Orange County and San Diego: teen pages for Orange County and North County San Diego; adults there see us by video too.
How does payment work for telehealth?
The same as in the office. We are an out-of-network practice and do not take or bill insurance. We provide superbills for all reimbursable services, and many clients submit them through the Reimbursify app. Read private pay therapy in California for the full picture, or call us to go over fees.
If private pay is not workable for you, your county also offers public mental health services. California’s Department of Health Care Services keeps a list of each county’s mental health plan with phone numbers (DHCS).
Looking for help with work or direction rather than therapy? Career coaching by video is also available for clients located in California. For parents, see teen therapy online or in the office.
Questions about telehealth therapy in California
Do I need to be in California for a video session?
Yes. You need to be physically located in California at the time of each session. If you will be out of state, tell us in advance so we can plan around it.
Is video therapy as good as being in the room?
For most weekly therapy, video is a practical way to meet, and many people find it easier to keep a regular schedule. Some approaches, such as Brainspotting, are offered in our Los Angeles office only. We help you choose on the first call.
Can I switch between video and the office?
Yes. Clients near Los Angeles often mix the two. Clients farther away usually stay on video and visit the office only if a service needs it.
Do you have an office in Northern California?
No. Our only office is in Los Angeles. Clients in Northern California work with us by secure video.
Can I get psychiatric care if I am outside Los Angeles?
Psychiatric care can be arranged and coordinated with your therapist. We explain how it works for your situation when you call.
Do you see teens by video?
Yes. We see teens 13 to 17 by secure video, with family and parent-only sessions available, for families located in California.
What hours are video sessions available?
Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. We schedule sessions around work and school within those hours.
