Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. One-on-one outpatient care by video for professionals anywhere in California.

What is virtual outpatient care for professionals?

Most outpatient programs marketed to professionals are group programs moved online: a cohort of people in similar jobs meets on a fixed schedule several days a week. Our approach is different. The Concierge Outpatient Program has no hour requirements and no groups. Each client starts with a comprehensive assessment, then follows a plan built for one person, with services that increase or decrease based on clinical need rather than a predetermined level of care.

By video, that plan can include individual therapy, psychoeducation on emotional regulation, relationships and relapse prevention, family sessions so the people closest to you are part of the process, and coaching and case management. You join from a private room on a computer, tablet or phone while you are located in California. The full picture of the program by video is on our virtual outpatient program page.

How does it compare with a group virtual IOP for professionals?

A traditional intensive outpatient program typically requires 12 to 20 hours of treatment each week and relies heavily on group therapy. That structure helps many people. It is also hard to fit around a trial calendar, a surgical schedule or a quarter close, and some professionals do not want to share their story in a group of peers from the same field.

Group virtual IOP for professionalsConcierge Outpatient Program by video
Weekly timeA set block of hours, often 9 or moreNo hour requirement; typically 3 to 5 hours
FormatMostly group sessions, often with others in your professionOne-on-one only; no groups

PlanProgram curriculum, with some individual timeBuilt for one person and adjusted as needs change
Psychiatric careVaries by programCan be arranged; we explain how when you call
PaymentOften billed to insurancePrivate pay; superbills for out-of-network reimbursement

Neither format is right for everyone. If you need daily structure or medical monitoring, a group IOP or a higher level of care may be the safer fit, and we will say so after the assessment.

Which professionals do we work with?

Common reasons professionals call include anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship strain, and drinking or drug use that has become harder to manage, often more than one at once. Our page on dual diagnosis care covers mental health and substance use together.

How do sessions fit around a work week?

Clients typically take part in 3 to 5 hours of highly focused one-on-one therapy and therapeutic interventions each week. That time is booked with you rather than assigned. A week might hold two individual therapy sessions, one psychoeducation session and a short coaching check-in, spread across days that suit your calendar. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and some Saturday therapy appointments are available; ask about timing when you call.

Because there are no group days to protect, a heavy work week does not mean missing a block of programming. Sessions move, the plan stays. As things steady, hours usually come down, and many clients continue with weekly therapy by video once the more focused phase ends.

What happens by video, and what stays in Los Angeles?

  • By secure video, for clients located in California: individual therapy (CBT, DBT and ACT, chosen for you), psychoeducation, family sessions, and coaching and case management.
  • Psychiatric care: can be arranged. We explain how when you call.
  • Only at our Los Angeles office: Brainspotting, TMS and neuropsychological testing. None of these are offered by video.

We do not have offices outside Los Angeles. Clients in San Francisco, Sacramento, the Peninsula and elsewhere in Northern California work with us entirely by video.

How does payment work?

Blackburn is an out-of-network practice. We do not take or bill insurance, and we provide superbills for all reimbursable services so you can submit them to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Whether and how much your plan reimburses depends on the plan. Details are on our fees and insurance page and in our private pay therapy guide. We share fees by phone.

Are you referring a client or colleague?

Attorneys, trustees, business managers, school counselors and clinicians who want to refer someone can start on our For Professionals page, which has a guide for each role and our referral form. The person you refer decides whether to start care, and we share information with a referring professional only with that person’s written permission, as allowed by law.

When is outpatient care not enough?

Outpatient care fits people who are safe at home and can keep up with daily life, even if it feels hard. A higher level of care may be needed if someone may need medical help to stop drinking or using drugs safely, cannot stay safe, or keeps getting worse despite outpatient support. Effective talk therapies are described by the National Institute of Mental Health, and the right setting matters as much as the method. If you are in crisis now, call or text 988.

Before choosing any program, see our questions to ask a virtual outpatient program. For work direction rather than treatment, there is also career coaching by video.
