What pressures do Lamorinda and Walnut Creek families describe?

These are small cities with big expectations. Walnut Creek had about 70,288 residents on January 1, 2026, Lafayette about 25,321, Orinda about 19,412 and Moraga about 16,662, in a Contra Costa County of roughly 1,163,891, per the California Department of Finance.

Three kinds of calls are common from here. First, commuters: the Caldecott Tunnel and Highway 24, BART from Orinda, Lafayette and Walnut Creek stations, or I-680 down through Danville and San Ramon, add up to long days that leave little room for an appointment across town. Second, parents of high achievers, worried about a teen’s anxiety, a college freshman who is not coping, or a young adult who came home and stalled; for teens 13 to 17 see online teen therapy in California, and for older children see help for parents of a struggling college student. Third, older adults in Walnut Creek’s large retirement communities, working through loss, caregiving, or a second glass of wine that became a bottle.

Farther down I-680, Danville and San Ramon families describe a similar mix: two working parents, after-school schedules that run until dinner, and teens carrying heavy course loads. Sometimes a parent wants help first, to figure out how to talk with a teen who will not open up. A parent can start with individual therapy of their own by video, and we can talk through next steps for the teen from there.

Drinking deserves a direct word. In suburbs where wine is part of every gathering, people often wait a long time before calling. You do not need to hit bottom first. Our alcohol use page explains how outpatient care works.

What does Contra Costa County’s Access Line do?

Contra Costa Behavioral Health runs a 24/7 Access Line at 1-888-678-7277 for mental health and substance use care, for yourself or someone you care about (Contra Costa Health). If you would rather pay privately for one-on-one care that fits your calendar, that is where we come in.

When can you fit a session in?

We see clients Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and some Saturday therapy appointments are available. Lamorinda parents often take the hour after school drop-off; commuters use a work-from-home day. Be in California for each session; if you are at a second home in Tahoe on the Nevada side, or traveling, we reschedule.

How is care paid for?

We are an out-of-network, private-pay practice. Superbills for reimbursable services let you request reimbursement from your own plan. See fees and insurance and our private pay FAQ.
