Starting by video, or getting here from Altadena
By video: this is where most Altadena clients begin. If the Eaton Fire moved you into a rental, a relative’s home or temporary housing, your sessions can follow you, so a move does not mean starting over with someone new. You join on a phone, tablet or computer from any private space.
By car: from Altadena, drivers usually come down through Pasadena to the I-210 or SR-134, continue to the I-5 or SR-110, and finish on the I-10 west. Every route crosses central Los Angeles, so try the drive once at your planned time.
By transit: the nearest rail is the Metro A Line in Pasadena, which runs into downtown Los Angeles. From there the E Line heads west and Metro Line 33 runs along Venice Blvd. Check Metro maps and schedules before you go.
Altadena: local context and resources
Altadena is an unincorporated foothill community of 42,846 people at the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau, via LA Almanac), north of Pasadena, with long-established and diverse neighborhoods. Because it has no city government, many local services come from Los Angeles County. For mental health, the county Department of Mental Health counts Altadena in Service Area 3, the San Gabriel Valley (LA County DMH).
The Eaton Fire in January 2025 changed daily life for many Altadena families. In a January 13, 2026 release, the county Department of Mental Health said fire-related counseling, including a walk-in Eaton Fire Collaborative site in Altadena, would continue through June 2026 (LA County DMH news release). That period has passed, so check the department for what is offered now. The county’s 24/7 Help Line at (800) 854-7771 and 211 LA County remain open for referrals (LA County DMH).
Who we help in Altadena
- Adults coping with loss after the fire: a home, a neighborhood, routines or a sense of safety. See grief counseling and trauma and PTSD treatment.
- Altadena teens who changed schools, lost friends nearby or still react to smoke and sirens. See teen trauma therapy and grief and loss in teens.
- Parents and caregivers carrying rebuilding decisions and family stress, through parent-only or family sessions. See anxiety treatment.
- Young adults and college students whose Altadena home base is gone or changed. Leave of absence and return letters are available when clinically appropriate. See therapy for college students.
- People whose drinking or drug use rose under stress. See dual diagnosis treatment.
In the office or by video: which fits you
Video usually fits Altadena residents who are still between homes, rebuilding, or juggling claims, permits and contractors, because sessions do not depend on where you sleep this month. The Mar Vista office fits people who want Brainspotting, which we offer in the office only, and anyone who prefers the room. Career coaching works either way. You can switch as your situation settles.
Questions from Altadena residents
Do you have an office in Altadena?
No. Our only office is at 12326 Venice Blvd in Mar Vista, about 22 miles from central Altadena in a straight line. Most Altadena clients see us by secure video.
We were displaced by the Eaton Fire. Can therapy continue if we move again?
Yes, as long as you are located in California. Video sessions continue wherever you are staying in the state. If you move out of state, we will talk through options with you.

Yes. Some people use county fire support and private one-on-one therapy at the same time. Check the LA County Department of Mental Health for which fire services are offered now.
My teen’s school changed after the fire. Can you see them?
Yes. We see teens one-on-one. Family and parent-only sessions are available too. Either parent can consent. Altadena parents can read our page on online teen therapy for Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley families.
Is career coaching available after losing work in the fire?
Yes. Career coaching for Altadena residents is offered by video or at our Mar Vista office, and it can stand on its own or be combined with therapy.
