- Psychiatric care: psychiatric care and medication management can be arranged and coordinated with your therapist.
- Teens and families: therapy for teens, family sessions and parent-only sessions. Either parent can consent for a teen, and high school seniors who have turned 18 can be seen too. Pasadena parents of a high schooler should start with online teen therapy for Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley families.

Starting by video, or getting here from Pasadena
By video: most Pasadena clients start this way. You join from a private room on a phone, tablet or computer, so a session fits between work, school pickup or caregiving without a cross-town drive.
By car: the usual routes are the I-110 into downtown Los Angeles and the I-10 west, or the SR-134 and US-101 through Glendale and Hollywood. Every route crosses central Los Angeles, and weekday traffic is hard to predict, so try the drive once at the time you are considering.
By transit: the Metro A Line runs from Pasadena into downtown Los Angeles, where the E Line heads west toward Culver City, and Metro Line 33 runs along Venice Blvd past our block. It works, but it is a long trip; check Metro’s maps and schedules before you go.
Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley: local context and resources
Pasadena is one of the few cities in Los Angeles County that runs its own public health department, separate from the county’s (LA County locator). County mental health services are organized differently: Pasadena, Altadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia and the rest of the San Gabriel Valley are in Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 3 (LA County DMH). Knowing which system covers you helps when you are looking for free or low-cost services close to home alongside private therapy.
Many people here are still living with the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, whether they lost a home in Altadena, were displaced, or are helping family and neighbors rebuild. In January 2026 the county Department of Mental Health said it would keep offering fire-related counseling through June 2026, including an Eaton Fire walk-in center in Altadena (LA County DMH news release). Check the department’s disaster resources page for what is offered now. Those services and private therapy can work side by side: some people want ongoing one-on-one care for the grief, trauma or anxiety that can follow a disaster, on a schedule that does not depend on where they are staying.
Who we help in Pasadena
- Adults with anxiety, depression, burnout, loss or relationship strain, including after the Eaton Fire.
- Young adults and college students home in Pasadena between terms. Leave of absence and return letters are available when clinically appropriate. See therapy for college students.
- Parents who want guidance on their own, through parent-only sessions, or family sessions with a teen.
- People whose substance use and mental health are tangled together. See dual diagnosis treatment.
- Families working with a trustee. With written permission, we can update a trustee. Updates cover attendance and general progress only.
In the office or by video: which fits you
Video usually fits Pasadena residents who want weekly sessions without the drive, parents joining from work, and anyone whose week is already full. The Mar Vista office fits people who want Brainspotting, which we offer in the office only, people who simply prefer being in the room, and those who come to the Westside regularly anyway. Career coaching works either way. You can mix the two, and we will talk it through on the first call.
