Starting by video, or getting here from Torrance

By video: most Torrance clients start this way. You join from a private room at home or at work, so a session fits around a shift, a commute or a child’s schedule. If you later want to meet in person, you can come to the office.

By car: the I-405 north is the main route from Torrance, exiting toward Venice Blvd. From east Torrance, some people take the I-110 north to the I-105 west, then the I-405. Try the drive once at your preferred hour before booking a standing in-person time.

By transit: the Metro K Line runs north to Expo/Crenshaw, where the E Line continues west, and Metro Line 33 runs along Venice Blvd. From most of Torrance that means a bus connection first; check Metro’s maps and schedules and local bus options.

Torrance: local context and resources

Torrance is one of the larger South Bay cities, with 147,067 residents at the 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau figures via LA Almanac). It falls in Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Service Area 8 (LA County DMH; LA Almanac), so county clinics for Torrance residents are organized through the South Bay. Free and low-cost services are listed through 211 LA County.

Torrance has a long history as a working city, with corporate, manufacturing and aerospace employers, and a large public school district. People here bring us the strain of shift work and long commutes, caregiving for parents, and teens under academic pressure. Anxiety that shows up as constant worry or checking can be OCD, and it responds to specific treatment. Families with a teen can read teen therapy for South Bay families.

Who we help in Torrance

  • Working adults and shift workers in Torrance with anxiety, depression or sleep trouble tied to stress.
  • People with OCD symptoms such as intrusive thoughts or checking; see OCD treatment.
  • Torrance teens and parents, through individual, family and parent-only sessions.
  • Adults caring for aging parents while working full time, including help with grief.
  • College students living at home in Torrance. When clinically appropriate we provide leave of absence and return letters; see therapy for college students.

In the office or by video: which fits you

For most Torrance residents, video is the practical default: weekly therapy with no 405 in the middle of it. The Mar Vista office is there for Brainspotting, which is office only, and for anyone who wants to be in the room. You can mix the two.
