Westchester at a glance, and why it shapes care
Westchester sits next to LAX in the City of Los Angeles’ Westchester-Playa del Rey Community Plan area, in Council District 11 (Los Angeles City Planning). Rail has changed the neighborhood: the Metro K Line opened to Westchester/Veterans station in October 2022, and the LAX/Metro Transit Center opened in June 2025 (K Line history).
Living next to LAX means many Westchester households include people whose work runs on early starts, overnight shifts, travel or on-call schedules. Irregular hours disrupt sleep, and poor sleep makes anxiety, depression and irritability harder to manage. Westchester is also a neighborhood of families, and parents of teens can find support here too.
Help for Westchester residents
- Stress, sleep and shift work: anxiety, depression and the strain of irregular hours and travel.
- Trauma: trauma and PTSD, including after a frightening event at work.
- Teens and families: individual therapy for adolescents with parents involved through our adolescent services.
- Substance use: substance use alongside a mental health condition.
What therapy in our office looks like
If your schedule rotates, tell us when you call. We will look for a therapist whose weekday hours line up with your days off or your shift pattern.
- It starts with an assessment. Your first visit is a conversation about what brings you in, your history and your goals. It becomes the basis for a plan written for one person.
- Sessions are one-on-one. You meet with the same licensed therapist in a private office, not a group room. Approaches are chosen to fit you, for example CBT for patterns of worry, DBT skills for intense emotions, or EMDR for trauma. NIMH explains these psychotherapies if you want to read more.
- Families can be involved when that helps. For teens, parents are part of the work through our family services. For adults, anyone else is involved only with your written permission.
- More support is available without a program schedule. If weekly therapy is not enough, the Concierge Outpatient Program offers 3 to 5 hours a week of one-on-one care with no groups and no hour requirements.
Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. When you call, tell us what times work for you and we will look for a therapist whose schedule fits.
How psychiatry is arranged
Some people who start therapy also want an opinion on medication, or already take medication and want one team managing it. Blackburn psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners provide psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management, and they coordinate with your therapist so the plan works as one. When you call, our team explains how psychiatric appointments are scheduled and what to expect at the first one. Learn more on our psychiatry page or, if substance use is part of the picture, our addiction psychiatry and dual diagnosis pages.
Getting here from Westchester
By car: head north toward Mar Vista and Venice Blvd. Call before your first visit and we will walk you through parking and the entrance.
By transit: Westchester has rail on the Metro K Line, but there is no direct rail line to our block; use Metro’s trip planner to combine bus routes to Venice Blvd in Mar Vista.
Parents of a high schooler in Westchester can also read therapy for private school students, with guides on anxiety, school stress and the college process.

Our office also serves people from Culver City, Palms, Playa Vista, Marina del Rey, Santa Monica, Westwood, Brentwood, Beverly Hills and Venice and Mar Vista. See every neighborhood, with distances, on our Areas We Serve page.
