Playa Vista at a glance, and why it shapes care

Playa Vista is one of the four neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles’ Palms-Mar Vista-Del Rey Community Plan, the same plan area as our office (Los Angeles City Planning). It is a newer, planned community bordering the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), and it combines homes with large office campuses for technology and media work.

For therapy, that often means demanding, always-on jobs and young families. You might reach out when work stress turns into burnout, sleep problems or panic, when attention problems you managed in school stop being manageable at work, or when a new baby and two careers strain a relationship.

Help for Playa Vista residents

  • Burnout and anxiety: anxiety, panic and the exhaustion that follows long stretches of high pressure work.
  • Adult ADHD: help with ADHD, plus testing when you want a clear answer.
  • Mood: depression, including low mood after a major change such as a new child, a layoff or a move.
  • Couples and family stress: relationship issues, with family services when the whole household needs support.

What therapy in our office looks like

Being about 2 miles away keeps the round trip short, so a session can fit into a weekday without taking over the whole day.

  • It starts with an assessment. Your first visit is a conversation about what brings you in, your history and your goals. It becomes the basis for a plan written for one person.
  • Sessions are one-on-one. You meet with the same licensed therapist in a private office, not a group room. Approaches are chosen to fit you, for example CBT for patterns of worry, DBT skills for intense emotions, or EMDR for trauma. NIMH explains these psychotherapies if you want to read more.
  • Families can be involved when that helps. For teens, parents are part of the work through our family services. For adults, anyone else is involved only with your written permission.
  • More support is available without a program schedule. If weekly therapy is not enough, the Concierge Outpatient Program offers 3 to 5 hours a week of one-on-one care with no groups and no hour requirements.

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. When you call, tell us what times work for you and we will look for a therapist whose schedule fits.

How psychiatry is arranged

Some people who start therapy also want an opinion on medication, or already take medication and want one team managing it. Blackburn psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners provide psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management, and they coordinate with your therapist so the plan works as one. When you call, our team explains how psychiatric appointments are scheduled and what to expect at the first one. Learn more on our psychiatry page or, if substance use is part of the picture, our addiction psychiatry and dual diagnosis pages.
